Home Game Scheduling Guide
Home Games vs CHC Opponents
All regular season home games against Connecticut Hockey Conference (CHC) affiliate programs must be entered into the CHC Website (not the CCYHA Site).
- An instructional video can be found here.
- Select the same home team name, date, time, duration, and location (Newington Arena or Champions Skating Center) for the listed game slot on your team's schedule page.
- Provided the above was entered correctly, the CHC calendar will automatically sync up to the Central calendar on your team page and overwrite your allocated game slot with the appropriate information. This sync may take up to an hour or so (longer on rare occations). Please be patient, but if you still do not see it syncing overnight, please reach out to the VP Admin & Ice.
- NOTE: if you subsequently remove an opponent from a game that was previously scheduled through the CHC site, the system converts your game slot on the Central calendar back to a practice slot. You will need to reach out to the VP Admin & Ice to convert it back to a Game slot before rescheduling another opponent. You may be able to change opponents directly on the CHC site, but if you remove a team and don't immediately replace them, you may run into this issue.
HOME GAMES vs NON-CHC OPPONENTS
All regular season home games against non-CHC affiliate programs (such as out-of-state opponents) must be entered into the Central CT Youth Hockey website.
- Navigate to the SCHEDULE page for your team, find the appropriate game event, click the Edit button, change the name of the opponent from "TBD" to the desired opponent and click Save Event.
- NOTE: non-league games do not actually sync with opponent calendars; you will need to confirm the event with the opposing team's manager/scheduler/coach, as appropriate.
- NOTE: if you are removing an opponent from a previously-scheduled non-league game, simply follow the above instructions and change the opponent back to "TBD".
Swapping Home Game Slots
If you are trading a home game ice slot with another CCYHA team, please make sure you trade within your age division. For example, we do not want a squirt team trading ice with a midget team, as the slot durations will not match up.
- Mite (8U) & Squirt (10U) game slots are 60 minutes
- PeeWee (12U) game slots are 75 minutes
- Bantam (14U) & Midget (16-18U) game slots are 90 minutes
UNUSED HOME GAME SLOTS
If you are unable to fill a game slot, feel free to use some of your open game ice for full-ice practices, especially early on in the season. If you are not using an upcoming game slot, please let the VP Admin & Ice know as soon as possible so they can cancel officials without being charged.
AVAILABLE ICE SLOTS
On occasion, a team frees up an unused game or practice slot, or the rink has additional ice to offer up to the program. These slots are published to the entire program through a shared Open Ice Time calendar (also through TEAMS > OTHER > OPEN ICE TIME).
Please note that these are the ONLY available ice slots. If you do not see a slot listed on a date, there are none available on that date. Open Ice Time slots are assigned to teams on a first-requested basis, and weekend slots will be prioritized for teams seeking games. If interested in an open ice slot, please contact the VP Admin & Ice.
TIP: If you are in need of a game slot and no open ice is available, one suggestion is to browse the Master Schedule, select a date, see if any teams have a game slot with a "TBD" opponent, and reach out to that team's Scheduler/Manager; they may be willing to trade spots with you. As stated above, please try to stay within your age group (or above) when trading slots. If you are performing a swap, reach out to the VP Admin & Ice with the swapping team's scheduler on copy.
SCHEDULING OFFICIALS FOR HOME GAMES
On the 7th of each month, the VP Admin & Ice needs to submit the following month's game schedule to IHONC so they can begin to plan and allocate officials for our program's home games (ie, submit all CCYHA October home games to IHONC by September 7th).
IMPORTANT: In order to ensure you have adequate coverage for your HOME games, it is imperative that you communicate any HOME game adjustments to the VP Admin & Ice ASAP for the current and upcoming months throughout the season. This does not include changing opponents for an existing game slot, nor away game adjustments, only the following scenarios:
- If you are cancelling your own home game slot (or converting it to a full ice practice), notify the VP Admin & Ice.
- If you are changing the time of your own home game slot (ie, swapping with another team), notify the VP Admin & Ice.
- If you are changing the location of your own home game slot (ie, no longer hosting, playing away at opponent instead, etc.), notify the VP Admin & Ice.
- If you are adding a new home game that does not already exist as a scheduled slot for your team, notify the VP Admin & Ice.
- If you are simply changing opponents for an existing home game slot (ie, changing from TBD to an actual team, or from Opponent A to Opponent B), you do not need to notify anyone.
Please note that this does not apply to home games played away at tournaments; only regular season home games at Newington or Cromwell (or neutral site games that we are hosting, if applicable).
Should any of the above scenarios apply, please notify the VP Admin & Ice with the following information (examples):
- On 10/1/2025 for start time of 11:15am for U12B at Newington Red, game has been moved to 1:30pm at Newington Blue
- On 10/13/2025 for start time of 2:30pm for U10 A1 at Newington Red, game has been cancelled (do not need refs)
- Add new game slot on 10/14/2025 for start time of 4:35pm on Newington Blue for U14A
You will still be responsible for maintaining your schedules within the CHC and Central sites. The above process is for planning changes to coverage of officials for your home games.
Lastly, please be aware that schedule revisions made within 7 days of the event incur a scheduling fee. Revisions (including late adds) made within 48 hours of the event incur a double scheduling fee. Any games cancelled within 48 hours of the event result in a full charge of the officials. Please communicate your changes to the VP Admin & Ice as soon as you are aware of them in order to avoid unnecessary costs, and ensure proper coverage of officials.
