Home Game Scheduling Guide
Home Games vs CHC Opponents
All regular season home games against Connecticut Hockey Conference (CHC) affiliates must be entered on the CHC Website (not the CCYHA Site). Girls teams are an exception and should utilize the Non-CHC instructions in the next section.
An instructional video can be found here.
Use the same home team name, date, time, duration, and location (Newington Arena or Champions Skating Center) as listed on your team’s schedule. If entered correctly, the CHC calendar will sync with your team’s Central calendar within about an hour. If it doesn’t sync overnight, contact the VP Admin & Ice.
IMPORTANT: If you remove an opponent from a CHC-scheduled game, the slot reverts to a practice on the Central calendar. You must contact the VP Admin & Ice to convert it back to a game slot before rescheduling. You may be able to change opponents directly on the CHC site (ie, from Opponent A to Opponent B), but removing a team without replacing it can cause this issue.
HOME GAMES vs NON-CHC OPPONENTS
All regular season home games against non-CHC affiliates (e.g., out-of-state teams) must be entered on the CCYHA website.
Go to your team's Schedule page, find the game, click Edit, update the opponent name from "TBD" to the correct team, and click Save.
NOTE: Non-league games do not sync with opponent calendars. Confirm details directly with the opposing team's manager/scheduler/coach.
NOTE: If removing an opponent, simply change the opponent name back to "TBD".
Swapping Home Game Slots
Home ice slot trades should stay within the same age division to ensure proper game duration.
- Mite (8U) & Squirt (10U): 60 minutes
- PeeWee (12U): 75 minutes
- Bantam (14U) & Midget (16-18U): 90 minutes
Example: A Squirt team should not trade with a Midget team due to mismatched slot lengths.
If swapping a game slot with another team, email the VP Admin & Ice with the other team's scheduler copied. Include the date, time, and teams involved in the swap.
UNUSED HOME GAME SLOTS
If you can’t fill a game slot, you may use it for full-ice practice—especially early in the season.
If you won’t use an upcoming slot, notify the VP Admin & Ice ASAP so officials can be canceled without charge.
AVAILABLE ICE SLOTS
Open ice slots—from unused team slots or extra rink availability—are posted to the Open Ice Time calendar (TEAMS > OTHER > OPEN ICE TIME).
These are the only available slots; if none are listed for a date, none are available.
- Slots are assigned first-come, first-served
- Weekend slots are prioritized for teams seeking games
- To request a slot, contact the VP Admin & Ice
TIP: If no open ice is available, check the Master Schedule for teams with a “TBD” opponent and ask their Scheduler/Manager about a trade.
Try to stay within your age group (or above), and notify the VP Admin & Ice with the other team’s scheduler copied if a swap is made (see the Swapping Home Game Slot section, above).
SCHEDULING OFFICIALS FOR HOME GAMES
By the 7th of each month, the VP Admin & Ice submits the next month’s home game schedule to IHONC for referee planning (e.g., October games submitted by September 7).
Notify the VP Admin & Ice ASAP if you make any changes to your home games at Newington, Cromwell, or neutral sites we host—this includes:
- Cancelling or converting a home game to practice
- Changing game time or location
- Adding a new home game not already scheduled
- No need to notify for opponent changes within an existing home slot.
- Tournament games are excluded.
Examples to include in your notification:
- “10/1/25, U12B, moved from 11:15am Newington Red to 1:30pm Newington Blue”
- “10/13/25, U10 A1, 2:30pm Newington Red, cancelled”
- “Add 10/14/25, U14A, 4:35pm Newington Blue”
Important Fee Info:
- Changes <7 days before game: scheduling fee
- Changes <48 hours: double fee
- Cancellations <48 hours: full ref charge
Early communication helps avoid fees and ensures proper coverage.
Note: You’re still responsible for updating your team’s schedule on the CHC and Central sites.
The process above is solely for managing referee coverage for home games.
